La Mesa is a city located in San Diego County, California. It is a retail center and a popular residence for upper- and middle-income professionals in the San Diego area. There is light manufacturing. Points of interest include the McKinney House, the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum, and nearby Mt. Helix, with its impressive view of the surrounding region. The City of La Mesa is located directly East of the City of San Diego. It is bordered on the Northeast by the City of El Cajon, on the Southwest by the City of Lemon Grove and on the Southeast by the County of San Diego. La Mesa is ideally situated: 5 minutes from San Diego State University, and Grossmont Community College; 30 minutes from University of San Diego and University of California at San Diego; 45 minutes from the Laguna Mountains; 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean, Mission Bay and La Jolla Shores; 25 miles from Mexico and; 539 feet above sea level and adjacent to the City of San Diego.

Located directly to the east of the City of San Diego, La Mesa has an approximate population of 60,000 and is graced with rolling hills and breathtaking views. Incorporated in 1912, La Mesa has grown from a sleepy farming community into a dynamic metropolitan area while still retaining its unique character and spectacular natural beauty. Whether you enjoy a blast from the past at the Thursday Night Car Show or selecting the freshest flowers at the weekly Farmers' Market, visitors to La Mesa have a wealth of recreational options to choose from. La Mesa has 14 parks, a golf course, a municipal pool, a senior center, and a community center.
La Mesa has earned its title "Jewel of the Hills" by making an active effort to preserve its natural surroundings. The city operates 14 beautiful parks, a municipal pool, a year-round fitness center and numerous tennis courts. Amenities such as these provide La Mesa residents with a wealth of recreational options. La Mesa Village continues to thrive with quaint shops, historic architecture, outdoor cafes and unique community events. Every Friday afternoon, from 3-6 p.m., a certified outdoor farmers' market is held on Allison Avenue east of Spring Street. There you can find fresh produce, fresh-cut flowers, baked goods and much more. The City celebrates an annual tradition every June with the La Mesa Flag Day Parade. The parade route progresses down La Mesa Boulevard past the charming shops and restaurants of downtown. Hooked on golf? Take a drive over to the Sun Valley Golf Course at 5080 Memorial Drive. The 9 hole course is a public facility with tees available for golfers of all abilities.
